Revenant To Issue 4th Set In Harry Smith Folk Series
Bill Board Magazine
By Chris Morris

Guitarist John Fahey's independent label, Revenant Records, will release "Harry Smith's Anthology Of American Folk Music Volume Four" on May 23. The original "Anthology," first released on three two-LP sets in 1952, won two Grammys after it was reissued in 1997 on CD by Smithsonian Folkways.

Revenant's two-CD set comprises 28 vintage recordings -- by Robert Johnson, the Carter Family, Lead Belly, the Monroe Brothers, and others -- which were selected by the late folklorist and artist Smith for a fourth installment of his influential collection that was ultimately not released.

The new set, to be housed in a hardbound package, will include a 96-page booklet with notes by Fahey, poet/musician Ed Sanders of the Fugs (whose 1965 debut album was produced by Smith), John Cohen of the New Lost City Ramblers, collector Dick Spottswood, and critic Greil Marcus.
